When the Recession Changes Your Wedding Plans #2

You might decide that the economy is just too rough right now, and the strain on your finances is such that you don't want to have half a wedding. Before you announce to your guests that you're postponing, check every one of your vendor and site contracts to be sure that you'd get your deposits back with this much notice.

It would be a shame for you to lose hundreds of dollars, if not thousands, by postponing the wedding in order to save money!

Slow down, take a breath, and when you're calm, go through each of your contracts to review their postponement/refund policies. You might be in the clear to set a later wedding date, releasing you from all pressure. Some vendors, especially now, might be happy to release your deposit money if you re-book with them for months from now. Again, they want your business, and they want to help you make it work. Hopefully, it's early enough in the planning so that neither you nor your guests will take a financial hit from this 'rescue.'

Yes, there are couples out there who do the math and find that even losing a few hundred in deposit money still puts them ahead of the game if they plan a destination or smaller wedding later, but that's up to you to figure out very carefully. And that task requires removing the emotion from the idea of a changed date and a delay to your wedding. It's only with a clear head that you can make such a big decision for your financial well-being.

It's not fun having to postpone. But it might be the best course of action for your Peace. And your future plan might turn out way better than the one you have now!
