Three Minute Solution #4: Just Say No!
Perfect the art of saying No. It's tough for a tried-and-true people-pleaser to do, especially when it's your future in-laws who need to hear it. You want to be nice. You want to be accepted. You want them to love you. But you don't want their plan for a sunflower-topped wedding cake to become a reality at your wedding. So here's your Three-Minute Solution. Pick up the phone when you know they'll be home (leaving a message on voicemail won't make you feel any better!) and say, "Thanks for that lovely idea about the cake topper, but we have a few ideas on what we'd like for that. So we won't be able to use that idea for our wedding cake. Why don't you use the sunflower theme for the wedding breakfast? Or for (groom's sister)'s birthday party? It's such a pretty summery look, after all." You've said No, but you've added compliments and an idea on how that concept can be brought to life elsewhere. That's the best way to say No, and you get stress-relief in 3 minutes or less!
