Parents who need to start off well with YOU

Right now, so many of you are newly-engaged, and you're already stressed about working with your parents on the wedding plans. I just recently posted here on starting off well with your parents, and a new conversation just popped up on my Ask the Wedding Etiquette Expert message board, about parents who might take the money away if you don't give them what they want.

When you first got engaged, excited parents offered to pay, and they jumped into hyper-speed on sharing their visions for the wedding with you. When you respond with, "No, we don't want 300 guests, nor do we want a photo booth, a chocolate fountain, bellydancers at the cocktail party nor a Frank Sinatra look-alike" they get quiet. Very quiet.

Visit our conversation for my take on what it might mean when parents get silent about offering money for the wedding right at the start of the plans. It might not be as bad as you think.
